Today in our rather hyper-individualistic society I feel as it is almost secondhand nature to hate being "copied". Similar to when you’re acing a history test in school and you see the guy next to you looking over, so you start covering your answers. Why should they have access to this information? You've put all the time and effort in after all.

On the other side of the coin, the argument is posited that one might actually want their audience to create as many derivatives of their work as possible. Why? I believe one could argue it serves a few purposes: free advertising, organic community-building, and also would technically upstream the value of the original collection or artwork.

There’s a quote from Picasso, “good artists copy, great artists steal”, which I’m sure you’ve heard. With everything from retweets, Facebook posts, Pinterest boards, to TikTok dances this phrase has been given entirely new color and bastardized to even greater lengths.

I wonder how he would view this digital & postmodern wave of art: specifically NFTs, artwork provenance, and the 21st century battle of copyright and DMCA takedowns. Would he disavow or embrace the use of copyright? What would he think of Google Images? Would Picasso have made digital art?How would we even go about explaining AI-generated art to him? How would he react?
